WHAT YOU'RE SIGNING UP FOR
This is the expedition we recommend to travelers who came for Mongolia, all of it. Two weeks, four landscapes, one circle: the dunes of the Gobi, the glaciers of the Altai, the lakes of the north, and a thousand kilometers of steppe between them.
It is a big route, so we pace it with rest days and short transfer legs where it matters. The vans do the heavy lifting; you just have to look out the window and decide where to stop next.

Ulaanbaatar → Baga Gazryn Chuluu
Out of the city and onto the steppe; granite rock city at sunset.

Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs
Dinosaur country. Red cliffs, fossil beds, first dunes on the horizon.

Khongoryn Els
The Singing Dunes — camel trek and dune summit at golden hour.

Yolyn Am ice canyon
Summer ice in the Gurvan Saikhan mountains, then a night under Gobi stars.

Gobi → Altai foothills
A long transfer day across the borderlands of the desert, camp at the first mountains.

Khoton & Khurgan lakes
Arrival in lake country below the snow peaks. Easy afternoon by the water.

Tavan Bogd basecamp
Glacier day: crampons, crevasses, and lunch on the ice.

Eagle hunters & petroglyphs
A berkutchi's eagle flies at sunset; Tsagaan Salaa's rock art in between.

Altai rest day
Hot showers in Ölgii, Kazakh food, felt workshop.

Ölgii → Khuvsgul
Flight to Murun (included), drive to Khatgal on the lake's south shore.

Khuvsgul lake day
Kayaking, swimming, sauna and plunge. The easy life.

Reindeer herders
A day in the taiga with the Tsaatan, then a final lake sunset.

Khuvsgul → Orkhon Valley
Long drive south through the forests of the north to the waterfall country.

Karakorum → Ulaanbaatar
The empire's capital in the morning, our capital by evening. Trip ends at your hotel.
